2010 CrossFit Games

Posted by The Coach on January 10th, 2010

It’s on!

The 2010 CrossFit Games season is upon us. Because of the extraordinary success of the 09 Games, CrossFit have added another layer of qualifier. Last year, the Regionals were the starting point for potential competitors. This year, there will be 13 Regionals around the world that all take place in May. But unlike last year, you now have to qualify for the Regionals (with a few exceptions in continents with sparse populations of CrossFitters).

Feeding these Regionals will be approximately 30 Sectional competitions, which will be open to anyone. The Sectionals will take place from mid-February to late March. There will even be a Sectional held as one of the events at the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio.

CrossFit have launched a special Registration Website with detailed information on each event. Athlete and spectator registration for the Sectionals is also open. CrossFit will do their best to allow everyone in who wants to compete, but at some point we may have to cut it off. Spectator attendance at most Sectionals will be limited, so you’ll want to act quickly.

Similarly, affiliate teams will have to qualify to compete in the Games this year. The Regional events will also serve as the team qualifiers for this year’s Affiliate Cup. There will be no team workouts at the Sectionals. The Regionals are not until May, so you have time to prepare. More information about the Affiliate Cup competition coming soon.

Also, there will be a limited Master’s competition (50+) for both men and women. Like the Affiliate Cup qualifiers, the Master’s qualifiers will also take place at the Regionals in May. There will be no separate Master’s workouts at the Sectionals.

There will be an Online Qualifier for deployed armed services personnel only. This will take place in May also.

The winner’s purse for the 2010 Games will be $25,000 each for the World’s Fittest Man and Woman, generously sponsored by PROGENEX.

Finally, we are seeking any interested persons who would like to volunteer their services to help out on the 13/14 March at the Sectionals at CrossFit Perth. The Sectionals and Regionals are wholly funded by affiliates and sponsors, so the more help we get, the better the event will be for all involved. If you’re keen to pitch in and help out, email Jason to register or for more details. Additionally, if you or your business would be prepared to offer sponsorship for the Sectionals, please contact Jason for more details on how you can take part in this valuable opportunity and gain massive exposure for your business.

Looking forward to helping out ’cause I’m not competing this time round – I’m still in training for Masters 2017! LOL!! 🙂

Love to help out but something tells me I will be there is spirit only … the body will probably be doing, or about to be doing “other things”…:)

Vicki: you’ll be doing a much tougher and more rewarding workout than we could ever program! 🙂

Pfft! I’ve seen chidbirth… What about that bastardised Fran with over 2km of rowing that we did!!!

Just joking Vicki (and also Kate, my wife)! All the best.

That’s the thing about pain isn’t it- it’s all relative…
